Our Annual General Meeting will be Sunday April 21. Please save the date. As always, we are looking for people with fresh insights to serve on the Board of Directors. Board meetings are scheduled for the second Tuesday of every month. They usually are 60 to 90 minutes in length. Please consider this opportunity to serve our congregation. When the lockdowns hit, we switched successfully to online Sunday services. Now several years later, we continue with hybrid services, typically with people attending in person and another contingent joining on Zoom. This is the new reality for most churches and congregations. Similarly, a large percentage of people have continued to work from home. Canadian society has changed significantly and there are no indications we will be returning in the foreseeable future to where we were before the pandemic.
We recognize that, for a variety of understandable reasons, some congregation members prefer to continue attending services and special events on-line. For sure, we would all like to see those folks again in person some day, however if not yet possible, we are grateful for, and appreciate, their on-line presence. They are valued members of our Don Heights family, important bedrock as we grow our congregation. And let's never forget the monumental contributions from our tech team of Ed, John, Janis and Ron. I was proud to attend the Peace Concert and would like extend thanks to all those involved, led by Lorna. |

Music Notes by Sheila WhiteDon Heights Singers have set a date of Thursday, April 4 for the next Potluck Supper and Sing event. It's an open rehearsal that commences with a communal meal where everyone brings a dish to share. Then join in singing, or just watch and hear the Singers in action. One of our favourite original songs is "Only One", inspired by the words of Rev. Edward Hale, repurposed and reimagined by John Sproule and me, starting with an existing melody I wrote that needed lyrics. Have a listen.
"Many well-deserved accolades for Lorna and other event organizers." Glenn Tarver, President.
We did it! by Lorna WeigandWith the help of many, our first Don Heights Peace Concert entertained more than 40 people. We collected around $300 to send to Doctors without Borders and several people were following through with e-transfers to [email protected], subject line "Peace Concert".
'm hoping we hit $500. The music from the young performers was superb and Sheila and our Don Heights singers did a great job of putting us in a peaceful state of mind. John Sproule brought forth several tears when he sang "Last Night I Had the Strangest Dream". Board NoteRecently, the Don Heights board approved the installation of security lock chains for our unit's two entrance doors, felt to be prudent after occasions when persons unknown wander in unannounced when our office administrator is working there largely alone.

Our sincere condolences go out to longtime member Mary Lynne Dewhurst and her family, on the recent death of her mother, Lila Dewhurst. Lila was just a few months shy of her 99th birthday. Photo AlbumUnitarians were early fighters for social justiceDownload and read an historic document from 1951, found by Sheila White while doing research for her book The Letters: Postmark Prejudice in Black and White. The brief proves early Unitarian involvement in The Association for Civil Liberties' push for human rights laws in Canada. The First Unitarian Church was a signatory to this document and Rev. W. P. (Bill) Jenkins served as Treasurer for The Association. Sheila's novel about her Unitarian parents' interracial marriage in the 1940s will be the subject of our February 19th book discussion group 11 a.m. on Zoom.

For the love of lunches!
Don Heights stepped up mightily in the interfaith community effort to provide lunches to hundreds in need. Read Sharyn's Devine's report on the Knox Outreach and all that we provided to assist. A big, special
