PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Glenn Tarver Once again our Wynford units are relying on a generator for power, which has again resulted in the cancellation of in-person Sunday services and reverting entirely to our Zoom channel. Regardless, our much-anticipated
September 10 service will be live as well as virtual. Allegedly the electrical problems in the building aren't as serious this time as the previous occurrence in autumn 2022 when we were shut down for almost four months. I attended the Wynford building management board meeting on Wednesday August 9. We were told completion of repairs was imminent (delivery of parts August 14, work finished August 16). Well those dates came and went and nothing has changed so far. I'll make sure to send out word immediately as soon the repairs are done. The latest news is they are awaiting a part. This second temporary diesel generator is still noisily pumping away at $11,500 a day (rental + fuel). All condo owners will be cost-shared calculated on a square footage basis. The amount we will be assessed depends on the length of the rental. For us, It might get to $10,000. Ouch. The hardworking and enthusiastic Growing Our Congregation Committee has set a goal of attracting ten new members a year. Many changes have come from our monthly meetings:

A lesson on how to improvise
What does a band of musicians do when they show up to our rehearsal venue to record, and there’s a diesel generator hammering away outside the window? They hold a kitchen jam instead! (Photo: John Sproule)

Coffeehouse Friday is percolating
After a summer break our Friday night coffeehouse returns to the front burner, beginning Friday, September 8 at 8 pm. Live and on Zoom, Bill's Coffeehouse at Don Heights welcomes all performers and audience members. Two feature sets and a variety show, coffee, tea and cookies for the low, low price of $5 (or PWYC) to help defray costs. Don Heights is proud to routinely hire, support and pay Canadian musicians. Zoom doors opening at 7:45 and traditional doors open at 7:15. Brian Jantzi.
Hamilton-based Brian Jantzi is a roots singer-songwriter, an acoustic & electric guitar player and multi-instrumentalist who performs across many genres of music, with songs that come from folk, blues, western, jazz, pop, rock & roll, bluegrass, Celtic, Latin, psychedelic and world roots. He's a certified jam-aholic who aspires to one day being booed at Newport. His songs and performances are reminiscent of the spirit of Warren Zevon, Lou Reed, Leonard Cohen, Neil Young, Murray McLauchlan, Bruce Cockburn, Jerry Jeff Walker and Traffic. With strong lyrics and straight-ahead
