PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Glenn Tarver Growing Our Community Committee (twelve bright minds determined to succeed) we have had two meetings to date as well as a Sunday service presentation by Wayne Walder. We have decided to focus on improving our social media presence on several platforms. We continue to believe there are plenty of people in this very large city who are currently unaware of Unitarianism and will be attracted when we connect with them. Our next meeting will be Tuesday April 4 at 10:30 am in person at Wynford. Anyone is welcome to join us.

Come for a tasty time. Treat a friend. STARCH SOLUTION POTLUCK LUNCH
SUNDAY, MARCH 19 after the service The Starch Solution potlucks are based on the teachings of Dr. John McDougall. He demonstrates that we can avoid, treat and even reverse many chronic health conditions by eating a whole foods, plant-based diet centered around starches such as rice, potatoes, sweet potatoes, pasta, etc and excluding added oils, salt and sugar.
Bring your questions, concerns and successes and join us for a delicious potluck lunch. Everyone is welcome. Not sure what to bring? Simple fruits or vegetables are always very welcome or check "recipes" on Dr. McDougall's website for inspiration. Sunday Services Committee
Sharyn Devine We'll be marking International Women's Day with several important Sunday talks. One is "Call Her Name" by the gifted Nicole McKay. The other is from Marissa Kokkoros, Executive Director of Aura Freedom, an awareness session of domestic sex trafficking in Canada. Learn about Aura Freedom’s award-winning and often-replicated method of preventing human trafficking as Marissa share's their upstream, intersectional approach to preventing sexual exploitation by addressing root causes, upholding human rights and advancing equity.

Splinters from the Board
Our next board meeting is Tuesday, March 14 on Zoom at 7 o'clock. All are welcome. Find the link below. Pot luck lunches following a Sunday service are being planned. More details coming. There have been preliminary discussions about reviving Dream Auction events.
Our AGM will be Sunday April 23 at 1:00 pm. One agenda item will be the election of the 2023-2024 Board of Directors. John Kennedy is chair of the Nominating Committee. Please speak to him if interested. Currently there is one opening. Our 'Out of the Cold' Commitment
Laura Tarver, daughter of Sharyn Devine and Glenn Tarver, delivered a massive lunch on behalf of Don Heights Unitarian Congregation to the 'Out of the Cold' program location on Markham Road in Scarborough.
On Sunday, February 12 our care package consisted of food to feed a hundred: ham, corned beef, cheese, egg salad, tomato, vegan, gluten-free and "no tuna" sandwiches; many juice boxes; coleslaw and two types of bean salad; apples and clementines; many, many snack items (granola bars, milk duds, wrapped caramels and chocolate, tea cookies and other cookies, individually wrapped cinnamon candies); bread, peanut butter and cheese slices, a knitted hat and scarf set, bars of Dove soap. We also included about $300 in grocery coupons from Metro. All of the above foods were prepared/donated by the following people: Sharyn Devine and Glenn Tarver, Diana Draper, Irene Ierullo, Tery Imamura, Germaine Kovary, Sandy Macdonald, Judy Newman, Peter Lister, Ruth Plumpton, Jane Robson, Lorna Weigand, Sheila White and Rosemary Wood. Thank you all. Previous to the day, we took to the Agincourt Community Services Association location at the Kennedy Road drop off, behind the Dorset Park center, at least three carloads full of items: Procter & Gamble product packs, clothes, shoes and boots, food, toques, toiletries, soap, shampoos, dental supplies, feminine hygiene products. We made a contribution of over $600 to ACSA, collected from family and friends of one very persuasive and efficient associate of Don Heights Unitarian Congregation, Irene Ierullo, who also collected most of the items which went to the Dorset Park location. Pot Luck is Back! Our tremendously enjoyable, monthly Sunday potluck lunch is back starting March 26. Bring a dish to share ranging from snack to side dish, casserole to dessert and partake in the bounty of the spread that materializes after our regular Sunday service. Not only a traditionally revered social activity accented by scrumptious food, our potluck is an enticement for those who have been away from the space to return to it and a nice invitation to newcomers, community members and friends to visit and get acquainted.
Music Notes by Sheila WhiteDon't miss Taivi on Saturday, March 8. We're aiming for a sellout with room for 100 more on Zoom. Taivi’s debut album, Rising Tide, charted in the top 25 of the international Folk DJ chart, and in the 2019 Contemporary Folk charts. Taivi’s recent work includes a multimedia production, “When the Walls Come Down” and a lyric video “Ukraiyna.”
DID YOU KNOW: The opera about Portia White came about because Don Heights presented the exhibit, "Celebrating Portia White 50 Years On" in February 2018?
Bits and Bites
Our Caring Committee reports that SUSAN ACKERMAN, Donald Smith’s wife, had a bad fall while dog-walking and broke her right elbow. She has a cast from her shoulder down to her knuckles.
After a long spell in hospital and in a convalescent home, MAUREEN PITKETHLY, widow of Bill Clelland, is finally home. Although Maureen has never been a member of Don Heights, she has kept in touch with many of us and has always been supportive of our events over the years. MARCH 21 IS THE UNITED NATIONS DAY FOR THE ELIMINATION OF RACIAL DISCRIMINATION
